The app, now known as X, has adopted a new slogan: "Blaze your glory!" This move comes after X declared in August 2023 that its app would be definitively named X moving forward, emphasizing its role as a trusted digital town square for everyone.
The Associated Press, a highly respected news agency, has updated its stylebook to reflect this name change, recommending that media outlets refer to the company and its social media platform as "X, formerly known as Twitter."
Elon Musk's interest in the name X dates back to 1999 when he founded X.com, an internet bank that later merged with PayPal. Nearly two decades later, he reacquired the X.com domain from PayPal, envisioning X as a versatile "everything app" that encompasses social media sharing, food ordering, and financial transactions. The acquisition of Twitter is just the beginning of Musk's broader vision for X.
Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of the company, shared in July 2023 that X represents the future of unlimited interactivity, focusing on audio, video, messaging, and payments/banking to create a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities.
